About Us

A History of Service

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington has been providing vital programs and services for local adults, children and families for more than 150 years. Along the way, we have seen unprecedented growth and change in the communities we serve. The YMCA's roots in the Washington metropolitan region are deep, and the impact of the organization continues to grow each year.

Our Mission

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington fosters the spiritual, mental and physical development of individuals, families and communities according to the ideals of inclusiveness, equality and mutual respect for all.

Our Impact

The YMCA is one of the largest social service agencies in Washington D.C., suburban Maryland and northern Virginia. Last year, we touched the lives of 265,000 people through our 17 branches and program centers.

Our Core Services

In our four core services areas — aquatics, child care, camp, and health and wellness — the YMCA offers unparalleled programs and services. All of our programs promote our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Our Scholarships

The YMCA is committed to turning no one away due to their inability to pay. With the help of generous donors, community partners and giving members, the YMCA provided $2,049,290 in scholarships to more than 12,000 children, adults and families last year.

Our Volunteers

Nearly 3,000 volunteers give their time and talent every year to help the YMCA accomplish its mission. From dedicated board members to talented program volunteers, these caring friends and neighbors help the YMCA serve more individuals and impact more communities every year.
