Last week, our Y branches rallied around Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide campaign that acknowledges the huge impact that afterschool programs have on students, their families and their communities. The Harvard Family Research Project findings show that students who participate in afterschool programs have positive growth academically, socially/mentally and in the areas of prevention, health and wellness. You can locate your nearest opportunity for a YMCA afterschool program here!
Students celebrated by participating in arts and crafts, mural painting and much more! Check out some actions shots from YMCA Arlington and YMCA Loudoun County below!

Get Active Before You're Stuck Inside
Despite today's snow fall - possibly 8 inches of it to be exact - the time is always right to be healthy, be happy and discover your best self. Here's one of our Iron Maidens at YMCA Silver Spring, making sure her bones stay strong! All of our Ys are still open and ready to welcome you if you have the day off!

“This year I have 3 new additions to my family,” Ms. Crawford said as she left our Association Services Office yesterday morning after picking up gifts for her kids. “The Y has been a help in my kids’ life for swimming, camps and even the holidays! Thanks to the Y, the gifts give my kids something to look forward to in the morning.”

Kids & Mayor Get an Early Visit from Santa
In just one week, Santa will dash, dance and prance around the globe spreading joy and reigniting the spirit of childhood. YMCA Alexandria kids were lucky enough to get an early visit from Father Christmas himself. Mrs. Claus and Santa stopped by the Alexandria Y on Dec. 12th for their annual gift giving event. Members, staff and volunteers donated and wrapped gifts for children in need of a happy holiday experience. While our staff gave out gifts, every child whispered their hopes and wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Claus. A merry sight to see!
