What's happening at the y

Rev up your healthy living experience at YMCA Anthony Bowen this October!

Find Your 150 is designed to inspire and support you in finding the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity each week. This six-week program runs Monday, October 5th through Saturday, November 14th (6 weeks for $39). Strengthen your commitment to living a healthier lifestyle and get results through nutrition and exercise. You can also be eligible to win 150-days of free membership!

Join our Fall Running Club, every Tuesday starting October 6th from 7:00am to 8:00am! All levels and paces are welcome. Each week, we'll run a distance between 1-3 miles, as well as give participants tips on training and injury prevention. Experience Hip Hop Yoga, starting Thursday, October 15th from 6:30pm-7:30pm! This vinyasa-style class is set to the soundtrack of uplifting hip hop music. Contact Victor Price via email for more information.

Join us on October 17th at 11am and every 3rd Saturday of the month for Cycle Mash-Up, a Two-Hour Themed Cycling Party Ride with two of your favorite instructors at YMCA Anthony Bowen! October's ride will feature Instructors Chris and Sean riding to the mash-up of Madonna versus Janet Jackson. Do your Wednesday nights need some oomph? Dance the night away at our ZUMBA Party with Dion, Wednesday, October 21st from 7:30pm-8:30pm.

Get a workout routine personalized to your needs by taking advantage of our Personal Training Special. Now through Saturday, October 31st, you can get 6 SESSIONS for $349 or 3 SESSIONS for $129 (New Clients Only).

Using just your bodyweight, TRX trains you to perform better in any sport, improve your posture, prevent future injuries, and lose weight effectively. Try it for free at our TRX Demo on Friday, October 23rd from 10:00am-10:45am.

Coming Soon: Plans to expand the branch and modify the layout where needed in order to build capacity and satisfaction for the growing membership! This year, you can expect to see an expanded free weight room with more space and more equipment (targeted for completion by the end of the year); the opening of the Carriage House (located just behind the facility) in November that will feature two new Group Exercise studios; and increasing the availability of the most popular group exercise classes in January 2016 (as requested in member surveys and through class attendance counts). We hope you like the changes that are coming your way!

Wednesdays & Fridays, October 28th - December 9th

The goal of YMCA Anthony Bowen’s six-week Fit and Fresh program is to provide a community for members to learn the health benefits of CrossFit style training in our INSTINCT class and Paleo cooking. After having completed the six weeks (12 workouts and 6 cooking classes), members will be prepared to implement such lifestyle habits into their everyday lives.

Classes are held Wednesday and Friday. The cost is $249 for full privilege members and $399 for community members.

4-Week Women's Self-Defense Workshop
Thursdays, November 5 - December 3, 7:30pm-9pm

Join us for a special 4-week Women’s Self Defense Workshop with Angela Meyer, a seasoned teacher, mentor and champion of women’s empowerment! This course will make you more aware, prepared, and ready for any situation that may occur in your everyday life. Students will have the opportunity to practice use of physical and verbal techniques in drills and simulated attack scenarios to ensure your health and safety always come first. This is a safe, informative and physically demanding training so be prepared to work!

Are you looking for an inspired space to host your upcoming holiday party?  YMCA Anthony Bowen’s conference room and terrace is available for rental! It’s ideal for birthday parties, holiday parties, receptions, trainings and other meeting needs. It hosts 80 people seated and 120 people reception-style. Rates are:

The unique design celebrates the legacy of YMCA Anthony Bowen as historically the first African American Y, founded in 1853, along with its ability to adapt and serve our community’s evolving needs. It also pays tribute to its famed visitors (such as Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Poet Langston Hughes and Dr. Charles Drew) and founder Anthony Bowen, a slave who purchased his freedom in 1830 and went on to become a prominent religious and community leader.
