Community Health Workshop Series: Diabetes Prevention Being healthy means more than simply being physically active or eating lots of kale and quinoa. It's about total wellness.
Join us for the first workshop in an ongoing series as we tackle serious health concerns. In this first workshop, we discuss diabetes--where one third of those living with the disease don't realize they have it. We'll be discussing prevention, the role of nutrition, mental health and the health care system.

Like the power of a positive mentor, the confidence that comes from trying (and succeeding!), and the importance of healthy, long-lasting friendships. Of course, they don't know this - they just think they're having a whole lot of fun!
From water activities and sports to creative arts, each day is packed with age-appropriate activities, new friends and personal growth. In addition to traditional and specialty camp activities, we are uniquely devoted to physical activity, water safety and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) education. Few environments will foster your child’s mind, body and spirit than at the Y.

Tae Kwon Do - Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art with a heavy emphasis on kicks. Students will develop discipline and confidence as well as incredible levels of fitness through self-defense.
Capoeira - A Brazilian martial art known for its quick and complex, yet graceful moves, Capoeira blends power, speed, and leverage to improve participants’ mobility and coordination. This is a great class if you are looking to improve your stamina, gain confidence, and learn about a new culture.
Pilates Chair - Pilates Chair classes creates a unique and challenging way to build strength in the core, improve balance and increase muscle coordination and control.
Plans for Expansion--Completed! We're proud to announce that in mid-June, we opened our newly expanded weight room! In this new space, you'll find more room for your favorite fitness moves, and more equipment!
And, earlier this year, we also opened the Carriage House--a two-story space dedicated to group exercise classes. We've been offering new classes and were able to increase the availability of some of our most popular group exercise classes!
These two expansions enable us to build capacity and satisfaction for our growing membership!
During your training, you will develop a proficiency through practice, and be exposed to a wide variety of different styles--Aerial, Budokon, Restorative, etc. The sessions kick off on Sept. 9 and continue until December, allowing your training to fit into your busy schedule.
Our commitment is to empower you not only in the classroom, but in every aspect of your life. We believe that Yoga Teaching is not just something you do for an hour a day, but in every minute, every interaction, all the daily actions you take in your life. This is what sets us apart as an accredited 200 Hour Teacher Training Program.

School's Out? Come to the Y!
When school is closed for holidays, spring break, administrative days, etc., the Y offers fun and enriching programs that support your child’s continued growth and exploration. YMCA Anthony Bowen's School Days Out camps include swimming, rock climbing, arts and crafts, sports, performing arts, homework assistance and tutoring, nutrition and more! Your child will enjoy also physical activity, problem-solving games and making new friends. Camps run from 9am to 6:30pm. Due to limited space, our School Days Out camps are currently full. The unique design celebrates the legacy of YMCA Anthony Bowen as historically the first African American Y, founded in 1853, along with its ability to adapt and serve our community’s evolving needs. It also pays tribute to its famed visitors (such as Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Poet Langston Hughes and Dr. Charles Drew) and founder Anthony Bowen, a slave who purchased his freedom in 1830 and went on to become a prominent religious and community leader.
