THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for a mission-focused yoga session on our rooftop terrace.Together, with 25 participants and our partners (Sweetgreen, Lululemon, Down Dog Yoga, Kapnos and Active Life DC), you raised over $350 to make a difference in the lives of children, adults and families who turn to the Y for help.
Thank you for being the change, being inspired and being there to join the movement of karma yoga, community building and sunset flow.

The instructor will meet each participant where they are and take them as far as they want to go. We will keep you safe, educated and motivated to achieve your best results. You will broaden and deepen their fitness experience by training at appropriate levels and intervals with TRX, ViPR, Olympic lifting, Power lifting, H.I.I.T., Tabata and Sandbags.
Krav Maga, the official hand-to-hand combat system of the Israeli Defense Forces and the preferred system for U.S. Military and law enforcement personnel, is not a traditional martial arts system. There are no rituals. There are no Katas. This reality-based system is based on simple principles and instinctive movements, designed to teach real self defense in the shortest possible time.
Y-Martial Arts classes are taught under the leadership of DC’s top Krav Maga instructor, self defense expert and 2011 MMA World Champion, Chris Torres. Students will learn a practical approach to self defense together, and through realistic training drills, burn fat and build muscle in uniquely fun and challenging way. Take unlimited classes for only $45 per month.

With so many demands on today’s families and the urgency of early brain development, kids need all the support they can get. For 160 years, the Y has provided a welcoming environment with caring staff where youth can feel comfortable to express themselves. As needs and trends change, so do we. We are proud to introduce the Future Leaders Youth Academy at YMCA Anthony Bowen, a new preschool enrichment model that will inspire your child’s love for learning, social and emotional development, character and creativity.
The Academy is a place where kids ages 2.5 to 5 years will learn early on how they can make a sincere contribution to the world around them. At the YMCA, we provide the best chance for our youth to succeed in school and life.
The Academy is designed to help your child grow through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) and healthy living activities, a safe and nurturing environment, instilling socially-conscious values, and reinforcing positive social skills. Every activity and interaction instills the Y’s core belief that all children have great potential, and deserve the opportunity to discover it. Our inspiring team is committed to not only teach these values and beliefs, but serve as role models.

The Legacy Continues...
We've been innovating for 160 years and we're just getting started. This redeveloped YMCA unites the right minds and resources for community interaction, education, healthy living, and our life-changing programs. The unique design celebrates the legacy of YMCA Anthony Bowen as historically the first African American Y, founded in 1853, along with its ability to adapt and serve our community’s evolving needs. It also pays tribute to its famed visitors (such as Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Poet Langston Hughes and Dr. Charles Drew) and founder Anthony Bowen, a slave who purchased his freedom in 1830 and went on to become a prominent religious and community leader.
