We know that children watch everyone and absorb everything around them.  That's why our program is staffed with experienced teachers and nurturing caregivers who understand the cognitive, physical, and social development of children.  We weave Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into all we do.  We believe the foundational skills and values learned early in life are the building blocks for a happy, healthy, centered person.

Join the YMCA Adventure Guides for 2016-2017! Circles (groups) have been formed in several northern Virginia locations, and if there isn’t one close to you we’ll help you create one! The once-a-month schedule for Circle meetings and activities is perfect for dads with busy schedules who want to capture some quality time with their elementary school age children.

Circle meetings typically include our Opening Ceremony, Scouting Reports (where Guides can share experiences they’ve had since the last meeting,) crafts, snacks, and a Closing Ceremony. Being grade-schoolers, there is occasionally some silliness as well! In addition to participating in meetings and activities, Guides can also earn patches for participating in the events and even earn a patch for designing the event patches!

“One of the best things I’ve ever done with my son. Adventure Guides gives us one-on-one time and creates great memories to last a lifetime.”
- Charlie Wood, Wampanoag Circle

“Meetings and activities once a month is doable on my busy schedule. The group is refreshingly relaxed and low-key-we just have a great time together.”
- Peter Oppenheimer, Rappahannock Circle

YMCA Arlington provides a safe, fun and enriching environment for your child to spend their after-school hours. Children will participate in arts & crafts, sports, team building, dramatic play, enrichment, character development, science, PHD, service-learning and free choice activities. In addition, your child will receive time and assistance with their homework and an afternoon snack. On early release days, children will have an opportunity to participate in field trips or special presentations at the Y. Our staff reflect, demonstrate and teach the YMCA’s Character Development traits of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We are licensed by the State of Virginia and maintain approximately 1:12 staff to child ratio. Our School-Age Child Care program is for children in grades K-5 (ages 5-11 years old). This small, friendly, family-oriented program is a great alternative to traditional extended day programs.
