At the Y, we want to introduce kids and adults to the richness of diversity through the unique movement of Capoeira, a Brazilian dance mixed with martial arts, acrobatics and music. Through this workshop, you will learn basic corporal techniques of Capoeira including acrobatics, defense and attack movements. Register today at the front desk!

Workshop Consists of:
  • Physical Fitness - As in any martial art, physical fitness and exercise are the cornerstones of Capoeira
  • Music - Discover the main elements of Capoeira music including clapping and singing, and playing instruments such as the tambourine (Pandeiro) & drum
  • Language and Culture - Learn about the rich history, ritual and tradition of Capoeira

Annual Fall Festival
Saturday, October 24th, 10am-1pm

There are two things you can count on this time of year: fall will come and the Y will celebrate! Join YMCA Silver Spring as we bring in the new season with our annual Fall Festival, a highly-anticipated festive event we host every year. Activities will include a Pumpkin Carving Contest, Touch-a-Truck, Music, Arts & Crafts, Face Painting, Swimming Pool Games & Inflatables, PHD Youth Wellness Activities, Blood Pressure Screening and more!

Fundraiser Dinner at Cubano's Restaurant
Tuesday, October 27th, 4pm-9pm
Location: Cubano's Restaurant in Downtown Silver Spring

The Y bridges the gaps in community needs for those in need—from social services to swim lessons. Enjoy authentic Cuban cuisine with friends and/or family, and you will make it possible for families in financially-trying times to participate in Y programs. Between 4 and 9pm, 35% of food and beverage purchases will be donated back to YMCA Silver Spring. Please join us at Cubano’s Restaurant to make an impact felt far beyond simple dollars and cents.

play a game on our new tennis courts!

Four beautiful new tennis courts are now part of your membership experience at YMCA Silver Spring. In partnership with the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC), these new courts will be home to a game you can LOVE your entire life.

Our 8 week fall sessions started September 8th, so click here to find a program for you!

All adult members that are new to tennis receive three (3) free “Rally in 10” tennis sessions! Rally in 10 is a goal-oriented program developed by the JTCC to help beginner adults learn how to play and enjoy tennis. Starting with how to hold the tennis racquet, it stresses the most important concepts to ensure you learn correct technique. Rally in 10 is guaranteed to have you on the courts in just 3 weeks!

If you have questions or would like more information, email Tim Johnson, our Head Tennis Professional.

free swim lessons for families who qualify

Swim lessons not only keep kids safe in the water, they can also be the first step in building confidence, social skills and healthy living. We are excited to learn your child wants to swim! Through the generosity of Shannon’s Fund, a scholarship opportunity named in memory of Shannon Hawkins (one of our beloved aquatics instructors), we are able to provide free swim lessons for youth and teens between the ages of 6 and 17. In order to qualify for the funds, recipients must have little to no swimming skills and demonstrate a financial need.

To apply, please fill out this application and return it to Member Services.
