Camping, like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities.
From traditional to specialty, here are the camp programs we are offering at our Y branch. Be sure to sign up early (before space runs out in your camper's favorite program!).
LOSE TO WIN WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE Week of June 1 - Week of July 20, 2015
Team up with a partner and enter our 8-week challenge to lose weight and embrace a healthier lifestyle! You'll be competing against members from across the DC region for the top prize (based on percentage of weight lost), but everyone will be a winner!
WEIGH-IN DETAILS Must weigh in the week of June 1. Must weigh out the week of July 20. Winners will be announced on July 25.
TEAM DETAILS Create your own team of up to 2 persons or let us place you on a team. Must be 16+ years old to participate. Must Register at the Member Service Desk at your respective YMCA Branch. Valid for YMCA of Metropolitan Washington members and employees.
TEAM FEE $120 Per Team ($60 per participant)

Summer Fitness Party Tues., June 16th, 5:30pm-9pm
Grab a friend and get to the Y for an energizing kick off to summer! We have FREE community activities (open to members and non-members) to help you and your family find activities to keep your mind and body active. Sample as much or as little as your heart desires. Here's what we have planned!
Group Exercise Galore: Y-Fusion (5:30pm), Yoga for Swimmers (6pm), Y-Cycle (6:30pm), BodyJam (6:30pm), Core Conditioning (7pm), BodyPump (7:15pm), Zumba (7:15pm), Gentle Restoratives (8pm) and High Intensity Interval Training (8pm)
Youth Sports: Soccer (5:30pm) and Youth Football (6:30pm)

PICKLEBALL AT THE Y!
What is pickleball, you may wonder? It's a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. And we're proud to offer it here at YMCA Silver Spring! Sign up for our Pickleball Monthly Pass and join us for non-stop fun!
With the Monthly Pass: You get 9 or 18 officiated opportunities to play guaranteed throughout the month.

free swim lessons for families who qualify
Swim lessons not only keep kids safe in the water, they can also be the first step in building confidence, social skills and healthy living. We are excited to learn your child wants to swim! Through the generosity of Shannon’s Fund, a scholarship opportunity named in memory of Shannon Hawkins (one of our beloved aquatics instructors), we are able to provide free swim lessons for youth and teens between the ages of 6 and 17. In order to qualify for the funds, recipients must have little to no swimming skills and demonstrate a financial need.
