Instead of a New Year's Resolution, take it One Step At A Time. Join this team-based program to make lifestyle changes one week at a time. The outcome will be sustainable changes to dietary and physical fitness habits. Weekly focuses include:
How to get moving
Are you getting enough sleep?
Strength vs. cardio
What to do: Sign up for a team (see the bulletin board by the gym). Purchase a 6-30 minute personal training card with your coach (price $180). Have fun and change your life!
New! Capoeira Program 8-week program starting January 9, 2016
At the Y, we want to introduce kids and adults to the richness of diversity through the unique movement of Capoeira, a Brazilian dance mixed with martial arts, acrobatics and music. Through this program, students will learn basic corporal techniques of Capoeira including acrobatics, defense and attack movements. Students will also learn the rhythms and songs necessary for Capoeira such as drums, tambourine and other native Brazilian instruments.
Program consists of:
Physical Fitness - As in any martial art, physical fitness and exercise are the cornerstones of Capoeira
Music - Discover the main elements of Capoeira music including clapping and singing, and playing instruments such as the tambourine (Pandeiro) & drum
Language and Culture - Learn about the rich history, ritual and tradition of Capoeira
IS IT SUMMER YET?!
When kids experience Y Camp, they experience something new every day. Like the power of a positive mentor, the confidence that comes from trying (and succeeding!), and the importance of healthy, long-lasting friendships. Of course, they don't know this - they just think they're having a whole lot of fun!
From water activities and sports to creative arts, each day is packed with age-appropriate activities, new friends and personal growth. In addition to traditional and specialty camp activities, we are uniquely devoted to physical activity, water safety and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) education. Few environments will foster your child’s mind, body and spirit than at the Y. Check out our SUMMER 2016 CAMP BROCHURE to see the exciting themes we're offering! free swim lessons for families who qualify
Swim lessons not only keep kids safe in the water, they can also be the first step in building confidence, social skills and healthy living. We are excited to learn your child wants to swim! Through the generosity of Shannon’s Fund, a scholarship opportunity named in memory of Shannon Hawkins (one of our beloved aquatics instructors), we are able to provide free swim lessons for youth and teens between the ages of 6 and 17. In order to qualify for the funds, recipients must have little to no swimming skills and demonstrate a financial need.
