
Snacking Smart
April 2012 - We've all been there. It's 3 o'clock in the afternoon and you can't get that tempting salty treat in the vending machine out of your mind. Or perhaps you're watching TV after dinner and are craving something sweet. Don't reach for the bag of chips or cookies! There's a better way to quiet your growling stomach... here are some healthy snacks that will satisfy your cravings:
- Whole grain cereal with low-fat milk

- Veggies dipped in hummus
- Apples or bananas with peanut butter
- Make your own trail mix (combine equal parts nuts, dried fruit, and a little something for extra crunch - whole grain cereal, mini pretzels or air-popped popcorn)
- 1/4 cup of Edy's Slow-Churned Yogurt Blends
- 4 salted clementine wedges (4 clementine wedges, dipped in a bit of melted dark chocolate and sprinked with sea salt)
- Greek yogurt with fruit and granola on top
- Honey butter popcorn (1/2 cup air-popped popcorn drizzled with 1 tsp. melted salted butter, mixed with 1.25 tsp. of buckwheat honey)
- 1 cup of edamame
- Strawberry feta salad (1 cup sliced strawberries with 1 tbsp. crumbled feta and 1 tsp. chopped mint)
- Laughing Cow Light Swiss wedge on whole wheat crackers
- 2 tiny tacos (2 Tostitos Scoops, each topped with 1 tsp. heated black beans, 1/2 tsp. melted shredded cheese, 1 tsp. salsa, 1 tsp. cubed avocado, and 1/2 tsp. each sour cream and chopped cilantro)
- Frozen grapes
- 23 almonds
- Petite BLT (1/2 slice whole-wheat bread, cut into 2 triangles and stacked with 1/2 cooked bacon slice, 1 thin tomato slice, lettuce, and 1 tsp. light mayo)
- Nature Valley fruit crisps
- Caprese bite (1 slice cherry tomato, stuffed with 1/8 oz. mozzarella and 1 basil leaf; drizzled with 1/4 tsp. olive oil)
- Lowfat chocolate milk
