160 Years Strong
For 160 years, the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington has been a cornerstone of the community. LOOKING BACK to our roots, we are still as committed to fostering physical, mental and social development as in 1852. MOVING FORWARD, we will continue to provide programs and services so that local adults, children and families can learn, grow and thrive. Join in the celebration of the Y, and help preserve its future. Visit www.ymcadc160.org for fun facts about our history and ways to get involved!

Re-Opening of YMCA Anthony Bowen in U Street Corridor
In October 2012, YMCA Anthony Bowen, the first African-American YMCA in the world, will be reintroduced to the DC community as a unique convergence of the past, present and future. The new facility will feature a rooftop terrace, a large child care facility, wellness and aquatic spaces, a demonstration kitchen, an internet cafe and three wellness studios. This redeveloped YMCA will offer ample space and resources for community interaction, education, healthy living, and our life-changing wellness programs. It will also celebrate its rich past and famed visitors as well as the legacy of Anthony Bowen himself.
