Nutrition is at the heart of a healthy lifestyle. It affects our energy, our stress, the impact of exercise and our ability to think clearly. But all too many don’t know where to start. The Y is here to help!

Our culinary studio at YMCA Anthony Bowen is the home of inspired cooking – from special interest to seasonal to basic cuisines! Whether you're looking for a unique date night, girl's night out, a better understanding of nutrition or more freedom and confidence in the kitchen, our cooking classes are just the answer.

In 2016, our healthy eating programs have reached 3,159 community members, and we have been able to provide nutritious culinary education for more than 3,000 kids, 800 adults, and 140 seniors. We teach classes on how to cook healthy, delicious meals on a budget. Proceeds from these classes help fund our anti-hunger program, which provides over 300,000 annually to children across the DMV.

Monthly $5 Community Classes
Easy, affordable and healthy recipes from the American Heart Association!

The Georgian Table
Learn to cook traditional dishes from Georgia, a country that once played host to Silk Route traders and whose cuisine straddles the divide between Europe and Asia.

Grocery Store Tour
Learn how to navigate the grocery store and make healthy, affordable decisions. Held in the kitchen for FREE!

A Taste of African Heritage
This 6-part series brings the African Heritage Diet Pyramid to life, showing you how to eat and cook healthfully, traditionally, and enjoyably through hands-on experience.

Simple Cooking with Heart
This hands-on 6 week series will teach fundamental nutrition and culinary skills while having fun in the kitchen. We’ll learn everything from knife skills, to braising and finish with a chopped challenge!

Kids in the Kitchen 
This 6 week series will get kids chopping, baking and sautéing! Open for kids ages 8-12 years old.

Seniors in the Kitchen
Join our senior cooking classes as part of our Senior Fit & Well Program.

Wellness Wednesday
Welcome Two Rivers Charter School to the kitchen!
