Summer Camp Update

May 12, 2020

Dear YMCA Camp Families,

Thank you for registering your child for the YMCA Summer Camp.

As we await guidance from local officials along with The CDC and The American Camping Association guidance as it relates to YMCA facility operations this summer, we are busy preparing to deliver a great summer camp experience. The 2020 summer camp will be planned with a focus on health and safety; socializing safely; and having fun outdoors.

Below are several of our most important guiding principles that the Y will be following this summer:

– Arrival screening and health response procedures are being updated per the CDC.

– Social distancing and other cross-contamination limiting measures will be followed at camp at all times.

– Campers and Staff will be required to wear cloth masks at all times. Staff will be prepared with additional PPE as determined appropriate by current guidelines.

– Cleaning procedures are being updated to include specific suggestions from our local Health Department in addition to enhancing with the latest technology such a UV lighting.

The Y realizes that families need the Y more now than ever and we are very optimistic that our camps will open, in the event that we are unable to run camp on any week that your child is registered, we will work with your family to:

a. Transfer their current registration to a later week or credit for summer 2021

b. Apply credit to any other YMCA program or service within the association, or

c. Camp families can choose to donate all or a portion of their camp fees to the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington to support much needed food, emergency child care and blood drives for our communities.

We know that this year’s camp will look different from years past but the new opportunities for fun, friends, and recreation will be exactly what you and your child have come to expect from your Y. As more information becomes available we will continue to share with our Camp Families.

To join us in preparing for the Best Summer Ever, please stay connected with the Y online at Thanks again and please check your email inbox for messages from the Y in the weeks ahead.

Yours in Good Health,

Your Y Family
