VIRGINIA

In Phase 2, the YMCA is permitted to offer indoor, outdoor and online activities. Class participation will be limited in accordance with state guidelines and reservations are strongly encouraged to ensure your spot is reserved for your participation. Please click here for fitness activity schedules and to reserve your space.

  • Come dressed to exercise. Restrooms will be available, but locker room changing areas and showers will be closed.
  • Bring your own water from home. Water fountains will be closed.
  • Please bring your own towel.
  • Check in with YMCA staff before proceeding to the fitness activity space. During the check-in process, you will be asked to scan your YMCA membership ID card, your temperature will be checked with a touch-less temperature scanner and you will be asked five health screening questions.
  • Practice social distancing and keep at least ten feet between you and others.
  • Members are required to cover their faces (face mask or cloth face covering) at all times except when in the act of exercising. When exercising, it is recommended that members cover their faces using a face mask or cloth face covering.

  • Strength Training on outdoor wellness equipment
    • Check in with the greeter upon arrival to confirm your reservation
    • All equipment is numbered. Members will sequentially enter, use, and exit the strength training area to maintain 10’ of social distancing at all times.
    • Members will use strength stations in 5 minute intervals.
    • Cardio equipment is available in 10-minute intervals.
    • Practice social distancing and keep at least ten feet between you and others.
    • Members are required to cover their faces (face mask or cloth face covering) at all times except when in the act of exercising. When exercising, it is recommendedthat members cover their faces using a face mask or cloth face covering.
    • Travel on pathways indicated when moving to the next piece of equipment.
    • Members can wait to use equipment in designated spots that support social distancing.

In-person protocol:

  • Trainers are required to wear a cloth face covering.
  • Clients and trainers must stay at least ten feet apart at all times.
  • Trainers will clean and disinfect all equipment before each workout.
  • Leave equipment out when the workout ends, so that trainers can clean and disinfect before putting it away.
  • Clients are encouraged to bring their own foam rollers, mats and blocks.

Virtual training protocol:

  • Members and trainers conduct personal training online using YMCA approved website
  • All training package purchases and payments are handled via email by sending an email to [email protected].
  • Lap swimming will be available in the outdoor pools as the government currently requires 6-feet of social distance to be maintained between swimmers.
  • At this time, one person per lane for swimming laps will be allowed with a 30-minute time limit for lane usage. Members may participate in one swimming session per day. If at the end of your swimming session, no reservations have been made for the next swimming session and no one is waiting to use the pool, members may continue to swim.
  • Members are encouraged to reserve their lap swimming time on the YMCA website. Please click here to visit the reservation page to reserve your swimming time and to review the reservation policies. Walk-in participation is available on a first come, first serve basis. Participating members are required to have active YMCA memberships (if membership is on hold, it will be reactivated upon participation).
  • Members must shower on the pool deck before entering the pool.
  • Whirlpools, baby pools, steam rooms and sauna will not be open during the first phase of operations.
  • The use of face coverings will be required on YMCA property, however, face coverings are not to be worn in the water.
  • There will be no use of pool equipment to minimize frequently touched objects (kick boards, pull buoys, and other swim adds at the facility will not be available for use by members).
  • Please bring your own towel, as there will be no towel service at the YMCA, and come changed and ready to swim as the locker rooms will not be available for use to change, shower or store items during this phase.
  • The YMCA will not be able to loan out googles, swim caps or any other items. Please bring these items for your use in support of your lap swimming time.
  • Children 12 and under who will swim continuous laps must pass the deep water test and have a parent on the deck during their registered swim time. Children 13 to 15 who will swim continuous laps must pass the deep water test.

Inclement Weather / Thunderstorm Policy

  • If thunder is heard, the pool and deck will close until 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard.
  • All members will exit the pool and pool deck during a thunderstorm and exit the YMCA.
  • Please arrive dressed to play tennis. Restrooms will be available, but locker room changing areas and showers will be closed.
  • Please bring your own water bottle filled with water to use, as water fountains at the Y will be closed.
  • Please bring your own towel.
  • Please use hand sanitizer and wash your hands before and after each playing session.
  • Sanitize your equipment, including racquets and water bottles, prior to and after play.  Sharing equipment is not permitted.
  • Please know that use of the tennis courts is offered only to members with active memberships at this time.  To activate your membership in advance of your arrival, please contact [email protected]. If your membership is on hold, it will be reactivated upon participation.  Guests are not permitted to play tennis at this time. We look forward to welcoming guests to the Y in future phases.
  • Members are encouraged to reserve their tennis court time on the YMCA website.
    • For YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase, please click here to visit the reservation page and reserve your court time.

  • Players should arrive no earlier than 10 minutes prior to their reserved court time.  Walk-in participation is available on a first come, first serve basis.

  • In Montgomery County Maryland, it is recommended, but not required, that members wear a face covering (face mask or cloth face covering) when exercising (during tennis play).
  • During play
    • No more than 2 members will be permitted on a court at one time
    • New (unopened) cans of tennis balls are required for each player, with a unique number/mark or brand of balls. Each player should only handle their own tennis ball during play.
    • No physical contact is permitted (shaking hands, high fives, etc.)
    • Stay on your side of the court (avoid changing ends of the court).
    • If an errant ball comes onto your court, the ball should be moved back with your racquet to the appropriate court (do not use your hand).
    • Pick up tennis balls using your racquet/foot together. Avoid using your hands to pick up the balls.
    • Avoid touching your face after handling the tennis balls or racquet.
  • After play
    • Leave the court, using the nearest exits that serve your court, as soon as reasonably possible while maintaining social distance.
    • Wash your hands thoroughly or use hand sanitizer.
    • No extra-curricular or social activity should take place. Avoid congregating after playing and please leave the facility.
  • The YMCA’s Inclement Weather / Thunderstorm Policy will be implemented for member safety.
