33.9 out of every 100,000 deaths in District of Columbia are due to diabetes, ranking District of Columbia 3rd highest in the nation for diabetes-related deaths.
- Overweight or obese (BMI >25)
- Family history of diabetes
- 45 years of age or older
- Sedentary lifestyle (lack of physical activity)
Program Goals 1) Reduce body weight by 7% 2) Increase physical activity to 150 minutes per week Who can participate To qualify: must be 18 or older, overweight/obese (BMI > 25) high risk for developing type 2 diabetes, or have been diagnosed with prediabetes. * YMCA membership is not required! If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, or believe you may be at risk for developing the disease, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can help you develop a healthier lifestyle and work with you to reduce the risks this condition can pose to your health.
